Ellen Noyes Chadwick was the daughter of Enoch and Clarissa Dutton Noyes. She married the son of a prominent sea captain Daniel Chadwick on March 21, 1845 and lived in a large house on Ferry Road in Old Lyme. She had two children, Charles Noyes Chadwick and Alice Chadwick. She was an untrained artist who's love of ships, sailing and nautical themes were her main subjects.
